Easy Indianlife Grilled Naan Pizza


Summertime is here – and with it time spent cooking outdoors. Are you planning to grill at a holiday weekend or upcoming summer BBQ? If so, you may be looking for healthy vegan and vegetarian choices for yourself and guests. The good news is planning a delicious vegan BBQ has never been easier!

Naan is a flatbread that originated in the borders of India and Pakistan. Naan is traditionally baked in a tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven that reaches very high temperatures (400 degrees Farenheit, 205 degrees Celsius). Spices, high temperatures and cooking in clay give tandoor foods their incredible flavor. And it gives naan its signature crisp exterior and fluffy core. Our beloved Indian Naan breads are traditionally baked and have been handed down from generation to generation.

Grilling naan brings out a smoky, charred flavor in our naan that tastes like it just came out of a tandoor! Naan is the perfect foundation for grilled dishes that make any gathering more delicious!

One of the tastiest ways to enjoy naan is naan pizza, hot off the grill. Here’s one recipe – substitute any of our Indianlife Cooking Sauces for traditional pizza or BBQ sauce to add spice and Indian flair.

Ingredients:

Onion, sliced thin (amount to taste)

Mushrooms, sliced thin

Fresh Spinach or Kale, Chopped (amount to taste), optional

1 Tomato, sliced or chopped (optional)

Grated Paneer Cheese, (or substitute mozzarella, or non-dairy cheese)

1 Jar Indianlife Cooking Sauce, BBQ or marinara/pizza sauce

Indianlife Naan flatbread – one naan per pizza

Preparation:

Gently spread the Indianlife cooking sauce or BBQ sauce over the naan. Thicker sauce will yield a more robust flavor. Add a layer of cheese or shredded cheese substitute. Now add your veggies – sliced onions first, then sliced mushrooms and peppers on top of those. Top this with another thin layer of cheese. Spread chopped spinach on the top, if you are using spinach.

If possible to preheat your grill, preheat to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, 222 degrees celsius. Grill 8 to 10 minutes over indirect heat until cooked and cheese is melted. Remove from heat, slice and serve!

Note: Paneer cheese does not melt like cheddar or cheese substitutes do. But paneer combined with an Indianlife cooking sauce will deliver a more traditional Indian cuisine style pizza.
